Treating Your Outdoor Fabrics (Video)

Hi I’m Bobby Cleveland the Golden Eagle engine answer man and today I’d like to show you some amazing products for cleaning and protecting your fabrics. 303 Fabric Vinyl cleaner and 303 High-tech fabric guard are so versatile. You can use them on your fabric, carpet and upholstery. They are what the leading manufacturers recommend. They are actually the only cleaner and water repellency agent that Sunbrella recommends. So if you have an awning, a boat cover made with Sunbrella fabric, these products are perfect for you. Let me show you how well it works on this boat cover. So the first thing you need to do is completely saturate your fabric with clear water. Then just spray the concentrated cleaner directly on any tough stains like dirt, tree sap, bird droppings and so on. And then just wait 3 to 5 minutes. Now while that’s soaking we’re going to get a bucket of solution ready so we can wash the whole cover.
So all you need is 1/2 cup of the concentrate to 1 gallon of water. You always want to use a soft bristle brush, never a hard bristle or a pressure washer. And make sure you get your whole cover clean. After you have scrubbed it all in, rinse the fabric thoroughly. It is important to rinse the fabric totally clean and let it dry completely. Now it’s time to apply the High-tech fabric guard.
A patented formula restores lost water and stain repellency to factory new levels. It will stop leaks, resist soiling and protect against both water-based and oil-based stains. You want to protect your hands by wearing gloves and be sure that you’re outdoors when using it. Simply mist the fabric guard on in a cross hatch pattern so you have a nice even coverage. It’s important to let the product dry completely, allow 6 to 12 hours. When it’s ready you can see how great it to repels water. Just look at the water beading up.

Sunbrella Care & Cleaning with 303 (Video)

[John] The team put together a PVC frame for my original Sunbrella top and we now have the zipper installed. And Mike Erickson from Canvas Designer was telling me that 303 is the only cleaner and re-waterproofing stuff that Glen Raven now recommends they are the manufacturer of Sunbrella. So Fred let’s talk about this, we’ve got some stain issues. We want to clean it and now I’m going to get some water out; some freshwater and I’m going to wet this canvas totally down. What do we used to treat spots on the canvas to clean it, what products do you guys make?[Fred] Okay John well after you have completely saturated this with water, the next step is 303 Fabric and Vinyl cleaner. It’s in a concentrated form, it’s non-toxic, bio-degradable, safe for the environment. What you want to do is take this and spray it full strength on all these spots, bird droppings, tree sap and any tough stains you have on the fabric.
[John] How long do we let it set?
[Fred] Let it set for 3 to 5 minutes on the stains.
[John] Now we’ve got to clean the whole top and in a gallon of water how much of the concentrate do we need to put into just one gallon of water?
[Fred] The dilution ratio is on the back but normally it’s one cup of the 303 Fabric and Vinyl cleaner to a gallon of water.
[John] Okay what tools do we used to kind of scrub the top to agitate the cleaning agent into the acrylic fabric?
[Fred] Well the best tool is a sponge or a soft bristled brush, never use a hard bristled brush, never use a pressure washer. After you have completely saturated this with the soap in the water, then you want to completely rinse it’s so it’s residue free. Now the product when rinse residue free but you want to keep rinsing it until you know it’s completely free of any suds.
[John] When you think it’s rinsed, rinse it one more time.
[Fed] That’s right, you can’t hurt it to rinse it more.
[John] Okay, the reason we have the frame is we wanted air to get the both sides of the fabric so it will dry, so that we can re-waterproof it. What does 303 makes for re-waterproofing?
[Fred] What’s always best is to do this on a nice sunny day. It helps the fabric dry quicker, it helps the fab guard actually dry quicker. So the next step is, after you’ve cleaned it, it’s completely dry, the next step is to apply the fabric guard. The fabric guard has a mineral spirit which allows the fluoro-polymer which is the agent that puts the water repellency and stain repellency back into the fabric.
[John] So do this in a well-ventilated area.
[Fred] Always.
[John] Now is there a specific spray pattern?
[Fred] What you want to do is, you want to apply to evenly horizontally and vertically. Not a lot; misting it on this way, misting it on this way so it adheres to the pores of the fabric, it’s very important. So once you’ve done that, once you think you‘ve saturated it enough, then let it dry for 12 to 24 hours. And now you have a completely clean and waterproof piece of fabric.
[John] If somebody wanted to learn more, do you have these steps listed on your website?
[Fred] Everything I’ve said today is listed on the 303 products website which is www.303products.com . It can explain all this to you and you can see all the product line that you carry for all the marine products.
[John] It’s wonderful that you can clean Sunbrella and you can re-waterproof it.
