Teak, like many hard tropical woods, has a natrual hard waxy oil that protects the wood from the environmental conditions like sun, mold, and the effects of weather. If left unprotected, teak will turn dull and gray and can suffer from algae and mold growth.

Before teak can be oiled, it must be completely clean. If heavy surface dirt or grime is present always use Interlux All-Purpose Boat Soap with Wax first. Teak restorers contain a blend of surfactants and stain removal agents that work together to dissolve the gray layer that forms on the surface of the wood

Interlux Premium Teak Restorer is a one part environmentally friendly water based formula that does not require a heavy rinse. It will not bleach, damage or raise wood grain and cleans and brightens teak in one step, revealing its natural color and grain.

Never use steel wool aboard your boat to clean teak. It can leave behind steel particles that can rust and when dried it can be difficult to remove. Always use a 3M Scotch-Britetm pad or stiff brush. Always scrub across the grain surface of the wood, never with it.
