Hi all. Almost done with my restoration of my classic dual engine Donzi.
Engines are BBC 454's with crusader Vdrives
I have run into a snag.
We've installed the standard rotation distributor no prob.
I purchased a reverse rotation distributor for the other engine, It has different gear teeth than the standard. But when we tried to install it, the gear in the engine would only accept the teeth that is the same as the standard rotation. How is this supposed to work?
They are Mallory marine distributors.
Would I just put the gear from the old distributor on the new one? And would it even work if that was the case? I am super confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated20250702_164353_resized.jpg

The distributors will not go in as the gear in the engine has the teeth of standard, but is a specific reverse rotation distributor

all depends on the engines cam being chain driven or gear driven.
Even reverse engines use the same std rotation dist because of the oil pump. Will not pump oil if its reversed

with the gear driven cam ,to need a standard dist for clockwise dist rotation, firing order is clockwise from number 1 .
I find it a lot easier to remember to use 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 in a CCW rotation on the cap instead of 1,2,7,5,6,3,4,8 clockwise.

As indicated above, GM RH rotation motors spin the cam, distributor and oil pump the same as the LH rotation motors. Only the crank spins backwards. Make sure your crank has the correct knurling for RH vs LH cranks.
