Hey guys,
I have in my possession an 1979 70Hp Mercury engine with lift but it is missing the block due to hole in it where piston was lol. My question is without block, how can I tell if this is a Force unit cause serial number would have been on block, correct?
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Oh I see ok. How do I find out what motor this is? I do have a serial number on the lift but no one seems to know what it is. Thanks

I do not know what you have !!-----The cowling / other parts pictured are NOT a 1979 model.---At least the decals are not.----What is the serial # of this machine.-----Decal for serial # is clearly visible in picture #3

My serial number is on the transom saddle, back side where it attaches.

That Serial # comes up a 3 cylinder Looper, and by the Cowl Decals, I would guess around 1987

You could try contacting a Merc Dealership, but I doubt the Part is available. Your best bet is just find another motor, in better Condition, and keep this one for parts.
Weren't you trying mix and match Power Trim Systems between this motor and a 44 inch 50hp?

Not a 79 model then.-----Should be lots of powerheads available.----70 / 75 / 80 / 90 HP models use similar parts.----Consult your local friendly dealer for help.

Yes, I was trying to see if it were possible but it is not lol. I picked this motor up cheap because the guy had the block machined and didn't want to pay the high price ($1.300.00). When I talked to the shop, they had already sold the block. Kind of a waste cause it is in great condition.
